- • Never leave food, coolers or trash in vehicles or on decks.
- • Clean fire pit and grill after each use.
- • Do not feed deer or any wildlife—TTCA fines apply.
Bear Spray Information
Available under the kitchen sink. Active irritant is hot chili pepper resin.
- • Clip it on your hip or chest where you can grab it fast
- • Use only if a bear closes to about 40 ft and won't retreat
- • Aim slightly down at its face, fire a 1- to 2-second sweep
- • Forms a 25–30 ft pepper cloud
- • Store cool and out of children's reach
If You Encounter a Black Bear in Timber Trails / Lake Naomi:
Immediate Actions:
- • Stay calm and stand your ground. Most black bears are curious, not aggressive.
- • Do NOT run. Bears can sprint up to 30 mph. Back away slowly.
- • Make yourself look bigger. Raise your arms, hold a jacket overhead.
- • Give the bear an escape route. Never corner a bear.
If Bear Approaches (20-30 feet):
- • Clap, shout, or bang pots to reinforce your size and noise
- • Use bear spray only if the bear charges (within 20 feet)
- • If contact seems imminent: Fight back with anything available. Do not "play dead" with black bears.
After the Bear Leaves:
- • Note where it went and call TTCA Gatehouse (570-646-2550) or PA Game Commission (570-675-1143)
- • Secure all attractants: latch bear-resistant trash cans, bring pet food and grills indoors
- • Report repeat visits to prevent property damage
